The Cane toad is the largest toad and was spread worldwide to eradicate pests in crops. It has become a pest itself in many areas. Its poison is sometimes used as an halluzinogen. Mure introduced it under the name of "B.sahytiensis, brasilian toad" into the MM. (Probably the toad was named by Mure after a place Sahy (or Saí) in the Santa Catarina State, Brasil, where in the 1840s ;ure had founded an experimental community. - Info thanks to Dr.V.Menescal, Rio). |
