The South American Tree Porcupine was named Spiggurus martini by B.Mure after its only prover Jo.Vincente Martins (see Mure, p.189). Mure also gives the correct zoological name with the authority of (Fr.Cuv.), which is the original and still valid naming of Sphiggurus spinosus (F. Cuvier, 1823), see ITIS report. One spine was triturated.
